Sensational Auction results at Auction House Zeller

Not only does the light come from the East but also many Collectors. Their lasting and limitless interest in Russian Art at the 104 th International Art Auction, lead to an incredibly successful auction.

The interest shown in high quality Art objects from all areas was unstoppable, whether it is fine mosaic Guéridons (Lot 2790) or exclusive Jewels, Connoisseurs are prepared to bid several times higher than the reserve price in order to acquire the piece their heart desires. What took place last Friday in the Zeller auction rooms could have been taken from film and will rarely be experienced again.

On Friday morning a on first impression somewhat rather dull ceramic figure in the form of Japanese Geisha (1261) climbed from 360 Euro to reach a staggering 47.000 Euros!

But the real sensations were to come with Lot number 1755, a diagonal format painting of „work-horse in Paddock“. This being the first piece from the liquidated collection of P.A Schmidt. The afore mentioned Mr. Schmidt managed to flee from Moscow to the west amid the chaos of the Russian Revolution with a small but exquisite collection of 19 th and 20 th century Landscape paintings. During the last 90 years they have been in the family’s hands in Austria together with a small amount of Russian silver and Jewellery of the 19 th century. The surprising result of the above mentioned painting by Leonid Viktorovitch Turshanski, which had a reserve price of 300 Euro reached a staggering 16.000 Euro, this was only the first of the following 10 pieces that followed. The most impressive being the knockdown price reached by Iwan Iwanowitsch Schischkin (Lot 1815) it rose from 180 Euro to 46.000 Euro – only to be topped by I(saac Ilyich) Levitan beautiful “Summer pond landscape” which rose from 120 Euro before being sold at 54.000 Euros.
